    Stavros Niarchos Healthcare

    20.009

    Project
The Komotini General Hospital is part of a national healthcare initiative led by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in collaboration with the Greek State. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the project reflects a shared commitment to patient well-being, efficiency, and a strong connection to nature.
Set on a sloped site, the 28,750 m² hospital provides 180 beds and is embedded within a large landscaped park. Its stepped design reduces the building’s visual impact, allowing it to blend with the surrounding vegetation and maintain a human scale.

Clinical functions are organized to benefit from natural light and views of the park, while public areas are open and transparent at street level. A solar canopy equipped with photovoltaic panels provides renewable energy and climate protection, reinforcing the project’s environmental approach. Constructed with extensive use of timber, the hospital combines sustainability, comfort, and clarity in its architectural expression.
