Project
Treurenberg is an office building located at Rue Treurenberg 16/28 in Brussels. The project involved the demolition of an existing building and the construction of a new passive office building. It was developed for AXA Real Estate Investment Belgium and designed by Assar.

The building has a total surface area of 12,130 m² and is organized around an atrium extending over eight floors, with a main entrance at ground level and a patio that exposes medieval remains on the site. From the fifth floor upward, the atrium widens into a glazed space connected to a terrace overlooking the roofs of Brussels.

The project is certified BREEAM “Excellent” (2018, score 74.2%). It meets the passive building and zero-energy criteria. The building includes 1,134 m² of photovoltaic panels with a stated production of 142 MWh per year. Reported primary energy consumption is 44.74 kWh/m²/year and net heating demand is 7.5 kWh/m²/year.

The project received a MIPIM Award 2016 in the category “Most Innovative Environmental Project.”
